How do I check or verify an FSSAI licence?
Verifying a number, finding your own, and what the status means.
How do I check an FSSAI licence number online?
Use the FSSAI or FoSCoS verification page and enter the 14-digit number. You will see the business name, the premises address, the kind of business and the current status. Anyone can check any number — it is public.
Buyers, marketplaces and auditors use this, so a mismatch between your pack and the portal is worth fixing.
How can I find my own FSSAI licence number?
It is on your certificate and on your FoSCoS dashboard. If you have lost access to the login, the number is also printed on your packs and on the Food Safety Display Board at the premises.
Can I search by business name?
FSSAI’s public search is designed around the licence number. Searching by name is unreliable, especially for common trade names — if you are checking a supplier, ask for the number and verify that.
What does the status on the portal mean?
“Active” or subsisting means the licence is valid. “Suspended” means trading must stop until it is put right. “Cancelled” or “surrendered” means it is over. Since 2026 a licence can be deemed suspended for a missed return or annual fee without any notice being served.
Our licence health check asks seven questions and tells you which of these you are in.
My supplier’s number does not verify. What now?
Stop and ask for the current certificate. A number that does not verify may be mistyped, may belong to a different premises, or may have lapsed. Buying from an unlicensed supplier is your exposure as well as theirs.
Does the number change when I modify the licence?
No. A modification — address correction, new food category, change of partners — keeps the same 14-digit number. A new premises gets a new number.
