A street-food cart and a steel tiffin — the small businesses FSSAI Registration covers
Who needs it

Is this your licence?

  • Any food business with annual turnover up to ₹1.5 crore, whatever it does — except the exceptions below
  • Home bakers, tiffin services and home kitchens selling to the public or through apps
  • Street vendors — with no government fee since 28.09.2024; vendors registered under the Street Vendors Act 2014 are deemed registered, but still bound by the hygiene rules
  • Small retailers, traders, transporters and manufacturers under the threshold

Not this one, if…

  • Caterers — at any turnover. The smallest option is a State Licence
  • Importers, exporters, e-commerce food businesses and nutraceutical makers — Central at any turnover
  • Anyone operating in more than one state also needs a head-office Central Licence

The 2026 amendment provides for instant registration on FoSCoS (reg. 2.1.1(4)). In practice that makes getting the kind of business right before you apply more important, not less — the certificate arrives faster than anyone checks it.

What goes wrong

The mistakes we see most.

Choosing the wrong kind of business

The certificate looks valid; the kind of business on it doesn’t describe what you do.

Caterers registering

Caterers can’t use Registration at any turnover.

Forgetting the annual fee

Unpaid, it suspends the registration.

How we file it

Four steps, on your own login.

Confirm the kind of business

Matched against the 2026 table and your documents, so the licence describes what you actually do.

Checklist, document review, the declaration — nothing goes in until it’s right.

FAQ

Registration questions

How long does an FSSAI Registration take?

The 2026 amendment allows instant registration on FoSCoS where the application is complete. What takes time is getting the documents and the kind of business right before you press submit.

Do home bakers need FSSAI registration?

Yes, if you sell food — including through Instagram, WhatsApp, Swiggy or Zomato. Most home bakers need the ₹100 Registration. If you also cater events, you need a State Licence.

Is it the same as an FSSAI licence?

It’s the entry tier. A Registration certificate carries a 14-digit number that goes on your label and display board just like a licence number.

What happens when my turnover crosses ₹1.5 crore?

You need a State Licence. It’s a fresh application rather than an upgrade of the registration — we flag it before you cross the line.

Start your Registration today.

Book a free 10-minute check. A person — not a bot — calls you back within working hours, tells you exactly which licence you need and what it costs, before you commit to anything.
