What’s at stake

One missed step can stop your business.

Every section explained

Deemed suspended — without notice

Miss the annual fee or a required return and the licence is treated as suspended. You may not trade until it’s put right.

Reg. 2.1.7(2) · Reg. 2.1.13

A label that fails

One missing element makes a product misbranded — a penalty of up to ₹3 lakh, and a reprint of every pack.

FSS Act s.52

The wrong licence

Trading on the wrong tier or kind of business is trading without a licence: up to 6 months and ₹5 lakh.

FSS Act s.63

These are the maximums the Act allows, not predictions. The adjudicating officer weighs the gain, the harm and whether it repeats (s.49).

Form D-1 — the annual return — is due 31 May. If your kind of business files it, missing it is one of the two things that can leave a licence deemed suspended without any notice. FSS (Licensing & Registration) Amendment Regulations 2026, gazette 10.03.2026 · annual return under the Licensing & Registration Regulations

What Form D-1 asks for
With your file kept

What changes when your file is kept.

From hoping nobody checks to ready whenever they do.

Trade from day one

The right licence for what you actually do, filed first time on your own login.

Never lose it to a date

Every fee, return and test on a calendar someone else is watching.

Labels that pass before print

Every pack checked against the rules before the printer — not after an officer reads it.

Inspections become routine

The folder an officer asks for, ready and current, whenever they walk in.

Room to grow

New outlets, new states, marketplaces, imports and exports — without starting from zero.

Your guide

You run the business. We’ll handle FSSAI.

Nobody opens a kitchen, a bakery or a factory to read gazette notifications. If a letter from the food safety office has ever made your stomach drop, you’re not alone — most filing services sell you a certificate and leave you on your own after it.

An honest food business should never be shut down by paperwork.

  • Regulatory experience from the government side

FoodRaksha is built on hands-on experience of how food regulation is administered — not just how forms are filled.

  • Every answer traced to the rule

A working library of more than two hundred FSSAI regulations, gazettes, orders and notices, read and indexed.

  • Both fees published

Our fee and the government’s, on separate lines, on every page — before you talk to anyone.

  • Built for after the certificate

Our own compliance software, training module and one team that keeps your file current.

The plan

Three steps. The Raksha Plan.

Most of the work is ours. Where something needs you, it says so — and nothing is filed without your approval.

Why we exist

At FoodRaksha, we know you want to run a food business you’re proud of — and grow it without looking over your shoulder.

To do that you need the right FSSAI licence, a label that says what the rules require, and a file that stays current after the certificate. The problem is that the rules are spread across hundreds of regulations, gazettes and orders, and they change every year — which leaves most owners guessing until a notice or an inspector tells them what they missed.

We believe an honest food business should never be shut down by paperwork.

That’s why we built FoodRaksha around the years after the licence, not just the day it’s granted: every requirement tied to the rule it comes from, both fees published, filing on your own login, and our own software and training to keep the file current.

Here’s how it works. Book a free 10-minute check. We file the right licence on your login for a fixed fee. Then we keep you licensed — every date, every return, every label.

So book your free check today — and stop wondering what you’ve missed, and start growing.

Licences and fees

Three licences. Your turnover picks one.

Since 1 April 2026 the tier turns on annual turnover, not production capacity. A few businesses are exceptions — importers, exporters, online sellers, nutraceutical makers, caterers, star hotels and grain mills. The finder handles all of them.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

Not here? Ask us directly — you’ll get a straight answer.

Which FSSAI licence do I need?

It depends on what you do and your annual turnover. Since 1 April 2026: up to ₹1.5 crore needs a Registration, ₹1.5 crore to ₹50 crore a State Licence, above ₹50 crore a Central Licence. Importers, exporters, e-commerce businesses and nutraceutical makers need a Central Licence at any turnover, and caterers can never use a Registration. The licence finder at the top of this page works it out in three taps.

How much does an FSSAI licence cost?

Two separate amounts. The government fee, which you pay FSSAI directly on FoSCoS: ₹100 a year for Registration, ₹5,000 for a State Licence, ₹7,500 for a Central Licence. And our professional fee, which is published on our pricing page and does not change after we have spoken.

Do I still need to renew my FSSAI licence?

No. Licences and registrations became perpetual on 10 March 2026 — they stay valid unless suspended, cancelled or surrendered. But a licence is now deemed suspended if the annual fee goes unpaid or a required return is not filed, and you may not trade while it is suspended. Renewal went away; staying compliant did not.

Do you pay the government fee for us?

No, and nobody should. The fee is paid by you, to FSSAI, on your own FoSCoS login. We prepare and file the application under that login with your approval, so the licence and the account are always yours.

Are you part of FSSAI?

No. FoodRaksha is an independent consultancy. FSSAI licenses food businesses; it does not appoint or endorse consultants, and its official portal is foscos.fssai.gov.in. Be wary of any website that looks official and asks you to pay a licence fee to it.

I sell only on Swiggy, Zomato or Amazon. Do I need my own licence?

Yes. The platform holds its own e-commerce licence; you need a registration or licence for what you actually do — cook, make, pack or store — and your number must appear on your listing.

What happens if I run without a licence?

Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act provides for up to six months in prison and a fine up to ₹5 lakh. In practice, the more common cost is a closure notice and lost trading days while you apply.

Can you fix a licence with the wrong kind of business on it?

Usually yes, through a modification rather than a fresh application. It is one of the most common problems we see: the licence looks valid, but the kind of business on it has stopped describing the business.
