Licensing & registration

Licence modification.

A licence that no longer describes the business is the most common problem we see — and it usually looks perfectly valid until someone checks it against the premises.

The outcome

Your licence describes the business you actually run — before an inspector or a platform notices it doesn’t.

What’s at stakeA kind of business that no longer matches what you do can be read as operating outside your licence — section 63 is up to 6 months and ₹5 lakh.

Who it’s for

You need this if…

  • You’ve added a product category, a line or a new activity (storage, export, online sale)
  • The kind of business on the certificate isn’t what you actually do any more
  • Your company name, address within the same premises, or partners have changed
  • Your turnover has crossed ₹1.5 crore or ₹50 crore and the tier must move
Crossed a turnover threshold? You need a fresh licence, not a modification.State Licence →

How it works

Who does what, in order.

Most of the work is ours. Where something needs you, it says so.

After it’s done

  • Display board, labels and listings updated to match
  • Calendar adjusted if new obligations came with the change
  1. We
    Read the licence

We compare the kind of business, product categories and details on the certificate with what you do today.

  2. We
    Decide the route

Modification, or a fresh application where the tier or premises changes.

  3. You
    Share documents

Usually the changed item’s proof — new product list, equipment, partner documents.

  4. We
    File and follow up

Filed on your login with your approval; queries answered until the change is approved.

What goes wrong

The mistakes we see most.

Adding products without a modification

The licence covers the categories on it. A new line outside them is trading outside the licence.

Treating a tier change as a modification

Crossing ₹1.5 crore or ₹50 crore needs a fresh application under the new tier.

Updating the certificate but not the label

Name or address changes must flow through to the label, display board and platform listings.

Why it’s safe to start

Our promises, in writing

Fixed fee, in writing

Your login, your licence

We file on your own FoSCoS account with your approval. Nothing to hand back if you ever leave.

Government fee paid by you

Straight to FSSAI on FoSCoS. It never passes through us.

Every rule cited

Each requirement comes with the regulation behind it — and our readings are marked as ours.

FAQ

Common questions

Is moving to a bigger turnover band a modification?

No. Moving from Registration to a State Licence, or from State to Central, is a fresh application under the new tier. We time it so there is no gap.

Can I add products without telling FSSAI?

Product categories on the licence should match what you make. Adding a category is a modification; making something the licence doesn’t cover is exposure under the conditions of licence.

How long does a modification take?

It depends on whether the authority inspects. We file as soon as your documents are complete and follow up until approval.

Can I trade during the modification?

You can continue what the existing licence covers. Hold the new activity until the modification is approved.
