To list on Zomato or Swiggy you need your own FSSAI registration or licence for the kitchen that cooks the orders; FSSAI tells platforms not to list any seller without one displayed. The tier is set by your turnover and what you do, not by the app.
You need the licence your kitchen needs anyway, usually under the Restaurants kind of business: Registration at ₹100 a year up to ₹1.5 crore turnover, State Licence at ₹5,000 up to ₹50 crore, Central at ₹7,500 above. You don’t need an e-commerce licence to list; that licence belongs to the platform.

No valid number, no listing
FSSAI's advisory of 3 December 2024 says no e-commerce food business shall list a seller on its platform without displaying the seller's valid FSSAI licence or registration. This is why onboarding stops at the licence field.

The same advisory asks platforms to prominently display sellers' licence or registration numbers and any hygiene ratings they hold. A hygiene rating is voluntary and valid for two years, but customers now see it on the listing.

A licence covers only the kinds of business written on it. A restaurant that adds packed sweets, sauces or bakery lines for delivery should check that the manufacturing activity is on the certificate. Adding it is a modification.

The advisory says no claim that isn't substantiated on the product packaging should appear online. Words like "healthy", "low-cal" or "sugar-free" in a dish description are claims.

For products sold through e-commerce, the advisory sets at least 30% of shelf life, or 45 days before expiry, remaining at the time of delivery. This matters for packed items, not a hot meal.

E-Commerce is a Central Licence at any turnover and is meant for the platform. A small restaurant that picks it is applying for the wrong thing.
Using a landlord's, a franchisor's or a previous tenant's number on your listing puts a licence on screen that doesn't cover your business at your address.
Each kitchen is a premises. Showing the first outlet's number on the second outlet's listing leaves the second one unlicensed.
No renewal is needed any more, but the annual fee still is. Miss it and the licence is deemed suspended without notice. You may not trade during suspension, online orders included.

Is FSSAI license mandatory for Zomato and Swiggy?
Yes. FSSAI's advisory of 3 December 2024 says no e-commerce food business shall list a seller without displaying the seller's valid FSSAI licence or registration. So the platforms need your number before you can go live. Separately, trading without the licence your business needs can draw up to six months' imprisonment and a ₹5 lakh fine (FSS Act s.63).
Which FSSAI license is required for Swiggy?
The one your kitchen needs by kind of business and turnover. Most delivery kitchens apply under Restaurants: Registration up to ₹1.5 crore turnover, State Licence from ₹1.5 crore to ₹50 crore, Central above ₹50 crore. A home tiffin service applies under Food Vending Establishment. You don't need an e-commerce licence to list on Swiggy.
What is the FSSAI license fee for Zomato?
There is no separate Zomato fee. You pay FSSAI's annual fee for your own tier: ₹100 for a Registration, ₹5,000 for a State Licence, ₹7,500 for a Central Licence, directly to FSSAI. Where do I find my FSSAI license number for Zomato or Swiggy?
It is printed on your registration or licence certificate and shown in your FoSCoS account at foscos.fssai.gov.in. Enter it exactly as printed, for the outlet whose address is on the certificate. If the number belongs to another premises or another business, the listing is showing a licence that doesn't cover you.
How do I get a food license for Zomato?
Apply on FoSCoS, FSSAI's official portal, for the kitchen that will cook the orders. Pick the kind of business, list the food categories and upload proof of the premises. The 2026 amendment provides for instant registration where a Registration application is complete. State and Central Licences go to the licensing authority for review. Then add the number to your partner onboarding.
Can I list on Zomato while my FSSAI application is pending?
The advisory speaks of displaying a valid licence or registration, and an application number isn't one. Our reading is that you should wait for the granted number before you list. How each platform handles pending applications is its own policy, and we don't speak for it.
Can a home chef sell on Swiggy or Zomato?
Yes, with a registration for the home kitchen. FSSAI's table lists home-based canteens and dabba wallas under Food Vending Establishment, with a ₹100 Registration up to ₹1.5 crore turnover. The home address is the premises, Schedule 4 Part I hygiene applies, and your number goes on the listing like any restaurant's.
