FoSCoS: FSSAI’s licensing portal, explained

FoSCoS, the Food Safety Compliance System, is FSSAI’s online portal for food licences and registrations, and its official address is foscos.fssai.gov.in. You use it to apply, track an application, download your certificate, file annual returns and verify other businesses. Government fees are paid there, by you.

What FoSCoS is

FoSCoS stands for Food Safety Compliance System. It's where FSSAI licences and registrations are applied for, granted and kept. FSSAI's FAQ gives its official URL as https://foscos.fssai.gov.in.

It isn't the same as FSSAI's main website, fssai.gov.in. That's where FSSAI publishes its regulations, amendments, advisories and orders. FoSCoS is where you do the paperwork. You'll use both.

Watch out for lookalike sites

FSSAI has warned about websites that imitate it and collect licence fees. A few habits keep you safe:

  • Type foscos.fssai.gov.in yourself. Don't trust the first advert in a search.
  • Check the address ends in .gov.in.
  • Pay government fees only on FoSCoS, never into someone's bank account or UPI ID.
  • Be wary of any site that offers to "download your certificate" with a mobile or Aadhaar number.

FoodRaksha is an independent consultancy, not FSSAI and not affiliated with it. When we file for you, we do it on your own FoSCoS login and you pay FSSAI directly.

What you can do on FoSCoS

  • Apply for a Registration (Form A) or a State or Central Licence (Form B). The home page has FSSAI's "How to Apply" guidance, the definition of each kind of business, and the "Documents Required" list.
  • Track an application with Track Application Status.
  • Answer queries from the licensing authority, from your dashboard.
  • Download your certificate.
  • Modify a licence when your activities or details change.
  • File annual returns. Form D-1 has been online only, on FoSCoS, since 2020-21.
  • Verify other businesses with FBO Search.
  • Record recalls. Under FSSAI's order of 18 March 2026, a business creates and records the recalls it starts on FoSCoS, and the public list sits in the Food Recall section of the home page.

Step-by-step: how to apply and how to check a licence.

Logging in

New users sign up and create an account. After that you can log in with your user ID and password. Since FSSAI's order of 25 November 2021, you can also use your licence or registration number, or your application reference number, as the user ID with your existing password.

If you can't get in, FSSAI's FAQ says your area officer can update your login details under the procedure in that order. Don't open a second account for the same premises to get round it.

Keep the login in your own name

Your FoSCoS account holds your licence for as long as you trade. Since 2026 there's no renewal, so you'll come back to it for the annual fee, returns and changes, not every few years.

That's why the login should be yours, on your own mobile number and email. A consultant can work on it with your permission. They shouldn't own it. If someone else set up your account, ask for the details now while it's easy.

Before you log in: what to have ready

  • Your kind of business, and every activity carried on at the premises. Form B lets you tick more than one.
  • Your annual turnover, which decides Registration, State or Central for most businesses. See licence types.
  • The premises address exactly as it appears on your documents.
  • The documents on the FoSCoS "Documents Required" list for your kind of business, self-attested by the proprietor or authorised signatory, as FSSAI's FAQ requires. Our documents checklist helps.
  • A way to pay online: ₹100, ₹5,000 or ₹7,500 a year depending on the tier.

Getting help from FSSAI

FSSAI's FoSCoS FAQ (July 2022) lists a toll-free help desk, 1800112100, and the email helpdesk-foscos@fssai.gov.in. Check the portal for current contact details before you rely on them. The FAQ also points businesses and consumers to fssai.gov.in's advisories page and the Food Safety Connect app.

FSSAI's help desk explains the portal. It won't tell you which licence your business needs. For that, use the free licence finder or book a free 10-minute check with us.

FAQ

Quick answers

What is FoSCoS?

FoSCoS is FSSAI's Food Safety Compliance System, the online portal for FSSAI licences and registrations. You apply, track applications, download certificates, modify licences and file annual returns there.

What is the official FoSCoS website?

https://foscos.fssai.gov.in, as stated in FSSAI's own FAQ. Type it yourself and check the address ends in .gov.in. FSSAI has warned about lookalike sites that collect licence fees.

How do I log in to FoSCoS?

Use your user ID and password. Since FSSAI's order of 25 November 2021, your licence or registration number, or your application reference number, also works as the user ID with your existing password. If you're locked out, your area officer can update the login.

How do I do a new registration on FoSCoS?

Sign up for an account, choose your State, premises and kind of business, fill Form A, upload self-attested documents and pay the ₹100 annual fee. A complete Registration application can be granted instantly under the 2026 amendment. Check your tier first: turnover above ₹1.5 crore, and some activities, need a licence.

What is the FoSCoS helpline number?

FSSAI's FoSCoS FAQ of July 2022 lists the toll-free number 1800112100 and the email helpdesk-foscos@fssai.gov.in. Confirm the current details on the portal itself before calling.

Is FoSCoS the same as the FSSAI website?

No. fssai.gov.in is FSSAI's main website, with regulations, amendments and advisories. foscos.fssai.gov.in is the compliance portal where you apply, file and download.

Can a consultant apply on FoSCoS for me?

Yes, but the account should stay in your name, on your mobile number and email, and you should pay the government fee to FSSAI yourself. That's how we work: we file on the client's own FoSCoS login.

Get licensed. Stay licensed.

Book a free 10-minute check. A person — not a bot — calls you back within working hours, tells you exactly which licence you need and what it costs, before you commit to anything.

  • Government fee paid by you, directly to FSSAI
  • Filed under your own FoSCoS login
  • Fixed fee, confirmed in writing before we start
