A food truck, food cart or street stall needs an FSSAI Registration while turnover stays under ₹1.5 crore. Street vendors who move on foot or with a cart pay no fee at all since 28.09.2024, and vendors registered under the Street Vendors Act 2014 are deemed registered with FSSAI.
FSSAI’s FAQ places food trucks under Food Vending Establishment: Registration at ₹100 a year up to ₹1.5 crore turnover, State Licence at ₹5,000 above. Hawkers, meaning itinerant or mobile vendors, register at a nil fee. Stalls, carts and vending machines selling packaged or fresh food can use Food Vending Agencies, tiered by turnover up to Central.

The Hawker row carries a nil fee, waived with effect from 28.09.2024. It is still a registration, and the number still has to be displayed.

Is FSSAI license mandatory for a food truck?
Yes. FSSAI's FAQ places food trucks under Food Vending Establishment. Up to ₹1.5 crore turnover that means a Registration at ₹100 a year, and a State Licence above. The truck must also follow Schedule 4 hygiene and display its number. Trading without the registration or licence your business needs can draw up to six months' imprisonment and a ₹5 lakh fine (s.63).
What is the FSSAI license cost for a food truck or food cart?
For a food truck, ₹100 a year to FSSAI under Food Vending Establishment. For a cart that moves around, the Hawker row, nil since 28.09.2024. Is FSSAI license mandatory for street food vendors?
Every street food vendor needs to be registered, but many already are. Since the 2026 amendment, a vendor registered under the Street Vendors Act 2014 is deemed registered with FSSAI. Others register on FoSCoS as a Hawker, at a nil fee. Either way, Schedule 4 Part I hygiene applies: clean surroundings, potable water, covered food, clean handling.
What documents are required for an FSSAI license for a food cart?
A photograph, photo ID, a list of the food you sell, and proof of the place you operate from or keep the cart, such as a lease or the owner's NOC. If you hold a street vending certificate, keep it ready, because you may be deemed registered. A separate prep kitchen needs its own proof of possession.
How do I get an FSSAI license for a food stall?
Apply on FoSCoS, FSSAI's official portal. A fixed or temporary stall fits Food Vending Establishment or Food Vending Agencies, and a stall at a religious gathering is named in the Food Vending Establishment row. Choose Registration, add your food categories, upload the documents and pay ₹100. The 2026 amendment provides for instant registration where the application is complete.
Do I need an FSSAI license for a vending machine?
Yes. The 01.04.2026 table's Food Vending Agencies row covers the sale of packaged or fresh food from a temporary or fixed stall, cart or machine. It is tiered by turnover: Registration up to ₹1.5 crore, State Licence to ₹50 crore, Central above. Machines at airports or railway stations fall under those premises' own Central rows.
What is the food truck license process in Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore?
The FSSAI part is the same in every city: the same rows, the same fees, filed on FoSCoS. What differs by city are municipal and police permissions for parking and vending locations, set locally and changed often. We don't cover those. US searches, such as Indiana food truck laws, are a different country's system.
